German Classes for Adults

Learn German in person and have fun!

We teach in-person German language classes for adults that are fun and focus on communication. Learn how to talk about culture and the arts in German while working on grammar skills and building your vocabulary. Blue Mouse Gallery provides a low-pressure, non-judgemental learning environment.

All classes are taught by a highly experienced native speaker who has many years of experience teaching adult and university language classes at all levels.

We currently have a few open slots for individual German tutoring (all ages and levels), please contact us if you are interested.

Summer Classes 2026

German for Advanced Beginners (A1.2/2)

This class started at novice level (A1) in fall 2025 and will continue at level A2 (pre-intermediate) in fall 2026. We will use the summer to finish all remaining contents of last semester’s textbook, review and practice grammar concepts, and expand our communication skills.

The focus of our summer class will be on real-life communication and fun interaction. We will practice language immersion through games and role play. This summer class will be your perfect preparation for taking the A2 class in fall!

If you have some prior knowledge and would like to join the class but are not sure about the level, please contact us for a trial class before the class starts to see if it is a good fit.

  • Class time: Tuesday 6:45-8:00pm

  • 8 classes during the summer: 6/16, 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25

  • Cost: $220 (textbook recommended, but not required)

  • What to bring: textbook (if available), notebook and writing utensils

German Conversation (B1/2)

This conversation class is taught at level B1/2 and requires intermediate to advanced language skills. It is perfect for reactivating German after taking a break from using the language, or for continuing learning beyond the beginner stage.

We will read German texts together, talk about them, and discuss topics that are of interest to the group. During the summer, we will reduce grammar instruction in favor of playing games—while encouraging and reviewing correct use of grammar as needed.

If you would like to join the class but are not sure about the level, please contact us for a trial class before the class starts to see if it is a good fit.

  • Class time: Monday 6:45-8pm

  • 6 classes during the summer: 6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 8/10, 8/17, 8/24

  • Cost: $165 plus reading materials as agreed on in class (TBD e.g., easy reading editions of literary texts)

  • What to bring: notebook and writing utensils

Fall Semester: September 8, 2026-January 28, 2027

German for Beginners (A1)

Our new beginner class starts at the novice level (A1). No prior knowledge is required, but if you have basic German skills that you would like to review and practice you are welcome to join. While we will cover all areas of language acquisition, this class uses a communicative approach and focuses on active conversation and real-life reading skills. The goal of this class is reaching the pre-intermediate level (A2) in the summer/fall of 2027.

Learning a language in person in a small group provides the perfect environment to put your language skills to the test and use them in everyday situations right away. Our groups are friendly, non-judgemental, and we know how to make language learning fun!

Homework is encouraged but completely optional.

  • Class time: Thursday 6:45-8:00pm

  • 18 classes per semester (no class on 11/26, 12/24, 12/31), last class on January 28, 2027

  • Cost: $500 plus textbook (required)

Pre-Intermediate German (A2)

Our pre-intermediate class is the continuation of our one-year beginner class. New students are welcome! If you studied German in the past, but need a refresher before you feel ready for advanced conversation, this class is for you. The class will focus on verbal and written communication, but all areas of language learning will be covered.

Our friendly, small groups will enable you to practice and deepen new language skills in a supportive, low-pressure environment. The goal of this class is reaching the intermediate level (B1) at the end of the year in summer/fall 2027. We promise to make it fun as we always do!

While in-class learning will focus on spoken language, participants will have the chance to work on their writing and reading skills in optional homework assignments.

  • Class time: Tuesday 6:45-8:00pm

  • 18 classes per semester (no class on 11/25, 12/22, 12/29), last class on January 26, 2027

  • Cost: $500 plus textbook (required)

  • What to bring: textbook, notebook and writing utensils

German Conversation (B1/2)

Our conversation class is taught at level B1/2 and requires intermediate to advanced language skills. It is perfect for reactivating German after taking a break from using the language, or for continuing learning beyond the beginner stage.

Every class will include a grammar review unit, progressing according to needs and interests of the class. The class will use a communicative approach with a focus on spoken language and active language use.

  • Class time: Monday 6:45-8:00pm

  • 18 classes per semester (no class on 9/7, 10/12, 12/28), last class on January 25, 2027

  • Cost: $500 plus textbook (regular or “PLUS” version; required) and reading materials as agreed on in class (TBD e.g., easy reading editions of literary texts)

  • What to bring: textbook, notebook and writing utensils

German conversation

This conversation class started at the beginning of January 2026. It is taught at level B1/2 and requires intermediate to advanced language skills. It is perfect for reactivating German after taking a break from using the language, or for continuing learning beyond the beginner stage.

We will read German texts together, talk about them, and discuss topics that are of interest to the group. Every class will include a grammar review unit, starting with basic topics and progressing according to needs and interests of the class.

The class will use a communicative approach with a focus on spoken language and active language use.

If you would like to join the class throughout the year, please contact us for a trial class to see if it is a good fit. Class fees will be prorated for late starters.

  • Class time: Monday 6:30-8pm

  • 18 classes per semester (no class on 4/20, 5/25), last class on June 22, 2026 (snow make-up date)

  • Cost: $500 plus reading materials as agreed on in class (TBD e.g., easy reading editions of literary texts)

  • What to bring: notebook and writing utensils, water bottle

German for beginners (II)

This class started at novice level (A1.1) in fall 2025 and continues at level A1.2 in February 2026. It will reach level A2 (advanced beginner/pre-intermediate) by summer 2026 and will continue at level A2 in fall 2026. If you have some prior knowledge and would like to join the class throughout the year, please contact us for a trial class to see if it is a good fit. Class fees will be prorated for late starters.
