About
Art …
“It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”
“The main thing is to be moved, to love, to hope, to tremble, to live.”
“There is no must in art because art is free.”
“Every time I have had a problem, I have confronted it with the ax of art.”
“Creativity takes courage.”
“Life is art. Art is life. I never separate it.”
… and Mice
When times got tough during COVID, two things kept me going - making art and rescuing a mouse. His name was Oscar.
Tough times happen, let’s not face them alone. Let’s make art together at Blue Mouse.

Our Neighborhood
We invite you to explore our wonderful East Cambridge neighborhood!
Getting to Blue Mouse Gallery is easy. If you drive, use the municipal parking lot behind the building across the street for up to 4 hours of parking. Bus 69 stops almost in front of our building. Walking from Lechmere Station (Green Line) will take 10-15 minutes. Or use the bike lanes and quiet neighborhood streets to ride your bike to Blue Mouse.
Looking for things to do after dropping off your child, or before and after classes? We have a public library next door. Gold Star Pool and Donnelly Field are around the corner. You can find specialty food and kitchen stores nearby if you need to get some shopping done. And there are excellent coffee shops, bakeries, sandwich stores, and restaurants in easy walking distance.
Thank you for supporting small businesses in our neighborhood!
Collaborations
Art is best when shared - we love collaborating with like-minded artists and institutions!
Studio Stranz
Ryan Stranz is a local artist whose Somerville studio can be found in easy walking distance from Blue Mouse Gallery. Ryan loves to interact with our young artists. That’s why we were excited when he offered to host our Summer Party 2026 at his studio.
For the event, we showed a special exhibition that combined Ryan’s amazing art with selected children’s artwork made at Blue Mouse. Seeing how seamlessly children’s art integrated into Ryan’s showing of large-scale abstract works was beautiful and impressive. We look forward to future projects, following our mission to inspire and encourage young artists while educating adults about the value of children’s art.
East Cambridge Community Events
We love bringing a craft table to local community events like Inmanween and Inman Eats + Crafts. These events are always great opportunities for intergenerational art which is at the heart of our mission. Watching several generations making art together is simply wonderful - and always generates smiles and laughter.
If you are planning an event that would benefit from a community art project, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
MIT Open Space Programming
It was a pleasure to be part of MIT Open Space Programming’s Summer Party 2026 with a 16-foot long community painting.
Our summer meadow painting invited busy professionals to take a short creative break, children to add a pop of color to everybody’s day, and families to create together. When strangers start making art together, communication becomes easy and invigorating conversations across different social and cultural backgrounds happen naturally.
